The Winter Landscape: Snow, Light & Hope
About This Talk
Medieval snowball fights. Skaters on frozen Dutch canals. Turner’s steamboat swallowed by a blizzard, and Kandinsky’s snow painted without a drop of white.
Join art historian Rose Balston on a joyful journey through six centuries of winter in art, from Bruegel’s Hunters in the Snow to Monet’s shimmering Magpie.
Find out why Impressionist snow is purple, how a Baghdad physician’s health manual ended up with a snowball fight in it, and why artists have always found hope in the darkest of seasons.
